Ventfort Mansion, part 2

For the history of the mansion and the downstairs rooms, see last week’s post. This post is available as a video at https://youtu.be/OkHKGWBtKDM.

This week, we’re mounting this lovely staircase to look at the second floor.

Ventfort: Stairs from the main entrance to the second floor.
Ventfort: Stained glass at the landing of the main stairway.

Yet another fabulous plaster ceiling, this one above the entrance hall.

Ventfort: Plasterwork on the ceiling above the main entrance.
Ventfort: Stained glass above the main entrance, and a balcony for spying on all the activity below.
Ventfort: Lovely table setting.
Ventfort: For a Berkshire cottage, you’d probably need service for, what … 12 people? 24?

Ventfort: The photos in Sarah Morgan’s bedroom are reproductions of family photos. This one is charming.
Ventfort: A coverlet monogrammed with Sarah’s intials.
Ventfort is available for weddings: this room is for the use of the bridal party.
Ventfort: I am still trying to figure out the practical use of that chair on the right.
Ventfort: One of the unrestored rooms. You can see the water damage in the far corner.
Ventfort: A “courting chair”. You will not be playing footsie. You will barely be holding hands!
Ventfort: Gallery over the main entrance foyer, partially reconstructed.
Ventfort: exterior.
Ventfort: Verandah on the back of the house, looking down a hill to a river, with the Berkshires in the distance.
Ventfort: Sculptures of dancers, from a period when the mansion was used by the Fokine Dancers. Couldn’t find a signature.
