Over the next  few months, I’ll be posting photos taken at Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, S.C. Although the gardens are not at their most beautiful in November, the sculptures are always wonderful! For more on Brookgreen, see the first post in this series.

Scott believes that the knowledge of aerodynamics gained in her 25 years as a licensed pilot has made helped her in showing the flight of birds. This work dates to 1996. The photos don’t do it justice.

A charming garden sculpture from 1922: very Art Deco in its stylized forms. New York has a couple works by Jennewein (1890-1978), notably Industries of the British Empire on the British Empire Building  at Rockefeller Center (620 Fifth Avenue, between 49th and 50th Streets).

Stephen Smith studied at the University of North Carolina, the Art Students League, and Parsons School of Design. This work is from 2007. I prefer Danielle Anjou’s Diver, but it’s a close call!

Baker (1881-1970) was inspired by the Nijinsky ballet of the same title. This marble sculpture of 1934 is based on a bronze version.
