Ca’ d’Zan, part 3: second floor, cont’d.

For more on the Ca’ d’Zan, home of John and Mable Ringling, see this post, which includes photos of the ground floor. Last week’s post had photos of John Ringling’s suite. This week: his wife Mable’s suite and the second-floor guest bedrooms. Next week’s post (the final in the series) will include the third floor and the Belvedere.

Second floor: Mable’s suite

John’s suite is decorated in the Empire style of the early 19th century: Napoleon’s style. Mable’s is in the lighter, more frivolous Rococo style of the mid-18th century – the period just before the French Revolution.

For reasons no one seems to be able to explain, the beams on Mable’s ceiling are decorated with punctuation marks.

For its time, Mabel’s bathroom must have been incredibly lavish.

One of the notable features of the Ca’ d’Zan is that all the closet doors and bathroom cabinets have unique, hand-painted designs. Lovely touch.

I absolutely adore this bed frame.

And we’re back to the balcony overlooking the great hall.

Next week: third floor and the Belvedere.
